Last night the remaining yacht crews and families gathered together to celebrate the closing of the ARC finish line and award an endless stream of prizes! Hundreds of happy sailors filled the hall waiting to find out if they would be awarded a racing prize or even one of the special prizes. Unfortunately, though we [...]

I do find that the very best way to be woken up after a night (well… day really) of rum punches is by foghorn!! More of that later, but first let’s start at the end. The end of our mini-adventure across the Atlantic!! We had the most beautiful day of sailing on Wednesday, as though [...]
244 nautical miles to go!

We are getting so close! After 2456nm, 244 does not seem a big number at all. Our water supplies are doing very well, I think we’ve only used about half of Maximillian’s water tank. Fresh veg is out now, apart fro an onion or a potato or twwo but we do have some jars of [...]
Squalls, they come on you fast and they leave you fast!

Today’s update is from Tristan: Well the day started well as Old Grey Beard whipped up some fantastic omlettes as we slowly trugged along at a frustrating five knots! A number of people jokingly asked me if scurvy would be a problem on our expedition before we set sail. I assured them it wouldn’t be [...]
Lightening storms and a sail on the horizon

We’ve seen no one out here for close to a week but yesterday to our excitement, a sail appeared on the horizon at our stern – how reassuring! We tried to call them up on the VHF but either they weren’t maintaining their listening watch or the call to ‘ARC yacht flying blue and light [...]
News from Roxy

I am getting very good at sailing! It’s fairly easy so far because the wind is always behind our boat and we haven’t needed to do very much. The crew seem to spend a lot of time reading books, talking, listening to music and eating meals! They usually change the sails a bit around sunset [...]
Position update from Pamela

Pamela here again…. Katharine asked me to email her some pictures of the fleet from Google Earth, plus some specific info on the other yachts in their class they are looking out for (which she mentioned in an earlier post in response to Jo’s question). I thought since I’d prepared it all, I’d post it [...]
Maximillian crosses the half-way point!

There were celebrations onboard last night as we passed our half-way point – hurray! We treated ourselves to a bottle of rose, cheeseburgers and shared a large bar of dairy milk – brilliant Talk of our arrival date is now being guessed at onboard, ambitiously ranging from 8th to a more pessimistic 12th December guess [...]
First catch & fun and games with the generator, again.

It may not have done our average speed any favours, but we had the most beautiful day’s sailing yesterday. The swell was running much more easily and right behind us so that we surfed the waves without any crazy slewing around which was fun. The sun was out and the sails were balanced really nicely [...]
Time flies when… you insist on changing the rigging all the time!

We can’t quite believe it’s already our fourth day at sea, boredom certainly hasn’t set in yet, although we did all get up to take a look at a buoy floating past us this morning! Hints at the similiarity of what we see most of the time at the moment! Mark & I were getting [...]
